To qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), applicants must meet several specific federal requirements regarding income, insurance status, and residency. The primary criteria include:

Income Thresholds: Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000 per year. Coverage is tiered based on income levels:

  • Families with income under $70,000 receive 100 percent coverage.
  • Families with income between $70,000 and $79,999 receive 60 percent coverage.
  • Families with income between $80,000 and $89,999 receive 40 percent coverage.

Insurance Status: You must not have access to any form of private dental insurance through an employer, pension, or professional organization. This applies even if you have opted out of available coverage.

Residency and Tax Filing: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes and have filed a tax return for the previous year. You also need a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Age and Group Prioritization: While the plan is expanding to include all low-income adults, the rollout has prioritized seniors aged 65 and older, children under the age of 18, and individuals with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate.
