Same day crowns differ from traditional crowns primarily in the treatment timeline, the technology used, and the convenience for the patient. While traditional crowns typically require two visits spaced several weeks apart, same day crowns are designed, fabricated, and placed in a single appointment lasting approximately one to two hours.
The process differences include:
Impressions: Traditional crowns require messy, physical putty impressions. Same day crowns use advanced digital intraoral scanners to capture precise 3D images.
Temporary Restorations: Traditional procedures require a temporary crown to be worn while an external lab fabricates the permanent one. This step is eliminated with same day crowns.
Fabrication: Traditional crowns are made by an off-site dental laboratory. Same day crowns are designed using CAD/CAM technology and milled chairside from high-quality ceramic blocks right in the clinic.
Despite the faster process, both types of crowns provide effective, durable, and natural-looking results when properly maintained.
