Types of extractions

Wisdom teeth removal is the most common tooth extraction procedure. It is a surgical extraction specifically to remove the wisdom teeth (third molars). The procedure is on a case by case basis, and may in involve significant soft tissue and bone removal. Wisdom teeth are removed if they are impacted, causing pain, infection, or affecting other teeth.

  • Description: A specialized type of surgical extraction specifically for the removal of wisdom teeth (third molars).
  • Procedure: Often requires surgical access due to the teeth’s position and potential impaction. Can involve significant soft tissue and bone removal.
  • Common Uses: Wisdom teeth that are impacted, causing pain, infection, or affecting other teeth.

Surgical extractions are required for teeth that are not easily accessible, such as impacted teeth or teeth with complex root structures. Our dentists make an incision in the gum to access the tooth, which may be broken into smaller pieces for removal. Local anesthesia is used before we remove the impacted wisdom teeth, teeth with curved roots, or teeth that have broken off at the gum line.

Multiple teeth extractions occur when we remove more than one tooth during a single visit. It can be either simple or surgical, depending on the teeth involved and their condition. Local anesthesia or sedation is used as needed. Multiple teeth are extracted to address severe dental issues such as advanced periodontal disease or in preparation of dentures.

Emergency extractions are only required in urgent situations where immediate removal is necessary to address severe pain, infection, or trauma. Our goal is to quickly resolve acute dental issues like severe infection or trauma.
